ISD has supported a cycling tournament the Grand Prix of Donetsk for the fifth year running
The Grand Prix of Donetsk, an international tournament in cycling was held under the auspices of ISD Corporation on the 16-17 of April 2011 in Donetsk. It’s the major cycling event in Ukraine including the only road race in the country which has been registered in the UCI (the International Union of Cyclists) calendar.
120 racers from seven world countries have participated in the races. There was a running commentary by Sergey Kurduikov, a commentator of the Russian channel Eurosport, one of the most competent experts in cycling. The Grand Prix of Donetsk 2011, an international competition in cycling has ended in a victorious double of the sportsmen from ISD-Lampre cycling team. On Saturday a representative of ISD-Lampre Continental Alexander Martynenko has received the largest number of scores in the criterium race. His team mate Maxim Vasilyev came third. Vladimir Bileka from Drogobych became a silver winner of the criterium race which was the part of the open championship of Ukraine.
On Sunday Yuri Agarkov, a racer from the continental team ISD-Lampre became the winner of the International race (category 1.2 UCI) the Grand Prix of Donetsk. The second place belongs to Mikhail Kononenko, a representative of a Kiev team Kolss, Dmitriy Kosiakov, a Russian from the team Itera-Katiusha came third. Alexander Prishpetnyi has won mountain classification and became the best sprinter. Dmitri Volovod from Donetsk became the best young racer from Donetsk region.
The adult race was preceded by a race of future champions with the participation of children from 4 to 6 years old. 6 year-old Leonid Nayar became its winner.
During the Grand Prix of Donetsk 2011 a symbolic Champions race with the participation of famous racers of the past was held. No other tournament on the CIS territory can boast of gathering such famous names.
There were 1980 Olympic champions Sergey Sukhoruchenkov and Vladimir Osokin, 1985 world champions Vasiliy Zhdanov and Victor Klimov, the winners of prestigious cycling races Tour de France and Giro d’Italia Jamolidin Abduzhaparov and Peter Ugriumov. The oldest racer was a frequent guest of the Grand Prix of Donetsk - the first Soviet cyclist, the winner of the stage of the world cycling race, 77-year old Nikolay Kolumbet.
The Grand Prix of Donetsk is constantly held at the highest European level with its organization being highly assessed by the UCI observers. This year Zbignev Shkibel (Poland) acted as the commissioner of the race.
The competitions were prepared and held by the International Sports Club ISD, the Administration for Physical Culture and Sports, Donetsk municipal council, regional and municipal cycling federations.
