A number of energy efficient activities are being held at the enterprises of the Ministry of Industrial Policy

One of these days Sergiy Grishchenko, the Deputy Minister of Industrial Policy participated in the meeting of the Working Group preparing the Action Plan to increase the energy efficiency in Ukraine. The meeting was held in the National Agency of Ukraine for Efficient Usage of Energy resources. It was headed by Harry Staggins, a representative of the World Bank, the manager of the energy project in Ukraine, a leading economist in energy field.

The enterprises belonging to the sphere of the Ministry of Industrial policy have already held activities to introduce new energy efficient and environmental technologies as well as advanced energy efficient equipment. Due to the international investments within the framework of the pilot project of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) and with the participation of Swiss and Austrian companies, Alchevsk Metallurgical Plant and Alchevsk Coking Plant have already introduced the facilities which burn the off-gases instead of natural gas which allows considerable improvement of the state of environment.

The project aimed to construct the electric power plant of a combined cycle with the capacity of 303 megawatt has been introduced in the city of Alchevsk with the participation of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development.

Today Alchevsk Metallurgical Plant is an absolute reconstruction leader having implemented the technical upgrading program by 2009.

The construction and modernization of the existing sintering plants have been carried out at a number of metallurgical enterprises, namely at Alchevsk Metallurgical Plant, Dzerzhinskiy Metallurgical Plant, Makeevka Metallurgical Plant, Yenakiyevo Metallurgical Plant, Zaporizhstal and Arcelor Mittal, Kryvyi Rih.

The decrease of natural gas and energy spending in rolling production on the whole is invoked by the implementation of new rolling technologies and technological complexes integrating continuous casting machines and modern rolling equipment. The given technology has been introduced at Alchevsk Metallurgical Plant.
