Alchevsk steel mill plans to achieve energy independence
Alchevsk steel mill plans to achieve energy independence due to considerable reducing of natural gas consumption. It was announced today at the press conference by Taras Shevchenko, the director of the plant.
As Liga Business Inform correspondent says, Taras Shevchenko clarified that the plant had consumed 60 thousand cubic meters of gas per hour; 45 thousand cubic meters of it were utilized by the blast- furnace plant for the production technology, 10 thousand went to an open-hearth furnace shop and 5 thousand cubic meters of gas were used by other facilities of the plant. T. Shevchenko underlined that due to the commissioning of the basic oxygen furnace production which technology doesn’t involve natural gas usage and owing to pulverized coal technology, natural gas consumption in a blast-furnace department had reduced down to 25–27 thousand cubic meters per hour.
According to T.Shevchenko, the plant plans to reduce natural gas consumption by 15 thousand cubic meters in the first half of 2010.
He summarized: «It’s the thing that will allow us not only to enhance the state of economy, but get energy independence in a complicated situation with the natural gas».
Earlier it had been announced that the Ministry of Industrial Policy and the Ministry of Economy review the possibility of excluding a number of plants, namely: Azovstal, Alchevsk Metallurgical Plant, Arcelor Mittal, Kryvyi Rih and Dzerzhinskiy Metallurgical Plant from the government regulation №925, «About high priority measures to stabilize the situation in metallurgy and chemical industry.»
